Bladen County School officials are calling their current budget "critical." School officials asked the Bladen County Commissioners for $7.8 million during the Bladen County Commissioner meeting Monday. That amount is about $1.6 million more than last year
Just a week after the Sales and Use Tax Referendum was voted down by the community, Bladen County School officials are asking commissioners to consider the full budget request amount.
The school system is already scheduled to make 60 position cuts at the end of the school year because of heightened insurance and retirement costs.
If the Commissioners do not approve the full budget request, Superintendent Robert Taylor said more job cuts could occur.
"We know that these are tough budget times and we know that there a number of things they need to consider, but one of our responsibilities is to the children of Bladen County," Superintendent Taylor said.
The commissioners will inform the school of their budget for the 2014-2015 school year.
