I got the opportunity to do something really neat last week. I got to attend the United Way of the Cape Fear's annual campaign celebration breakfast. They had noise makers and music and they offered up a rousing fun time not common to a breakfast meeting.
If you helped with a campaign or donated to the United Way, you have reason to be proud.
The good and caring folks in this area raised nearly $2.25 million this past year. That's wonderful.
It was fun to see all the hard work recognized with awards and applause to people, businesses and organizations.
It made me feel blessed to live and work in such a wonderful community with so many caring people.
The accomplishments were many, and there was even some spirit of competition in the room.
But Chris Nelson, the president of the local United Way, summed things up best as he closed the meeting by reminding us all to think about what those dollars do at the very end of the money trail. It's all about helping a person in need. That's what we need to keep focusing on.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
