Detectives with the Wilmington Police Department are investigating an early morning residential fire they believe was arson.
According to police, the victim told authorities they saw "movement in the home" before discovering their home was on fire.
Firefighters arrived to the home on Sharease Circle around 3:50 a.m. Monday and saw smoke coming from the residence. The small attic fire was under control by 4:15 a.m. and was completely out by 4:40 a.m.
Police said the bedroom window was found on the ground and further investigation showed traces of an accelerant and that someone forced their way into the home.
The structure was a single story residence that sustained damage estimated at $75,000. The American Red Cross has found housing for the two occupants that were displaced by the fire.
There are no reports of any injuries.
