SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) -

Firefighters rescued a woman trapped under her home for more than three hours early Sunday morning.

According to Asst. Chief Todd Coring with the Southport Fire Dept., crews were called to assist a woman in distress shortly after midnight Sunday.

Coring said the woman had been trapped under her home, located off East Moore Street, for hours.

According to Coring, she went under the home to adjust a TV cable shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday. She became disoriented and could not get out. The woman tried to escape through a small opening and got stuck underneath the house.

Coring said she yelled for help until finally someone heard her. A neighbor called 911 at approximately 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

Firefighters were forced to remove some of the foundation of the home but were able to rescue the woman after about 25 minutes.

The woman was treated on scene by EMS and is expected to be okay.
