A man was shot in the leg Friday in the Vesta Village housing complex of Wilmington.
Officials with the Wilmington Police Department said officers were called to the area of 19th and Castle Streets around 6 p.m. to investigate possible fireworks being set off. While investigating the area officers found several bullet holes in a home.
Around the same time a victim of the shooting was reportedly taken from Gufford Drive, a short distance from where the shooting occurred, in a private vehicle to the New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Officials said the victim had been hit once in the leg and suffered a non life-threatening injury.
Further investigation of 19th and Castle Streets showed that a total of three houses were hit by the gunfire. Witnesses in the area said they saw a vehicle speeding through the area with one person shooting a handgun out of the window.
