WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

Charges have been dropped against a woman who was accused of possession of a stolen scooter after purchasing it legally from Mad Mike's Scooters.

Kahpree Thomas bought a scooter and was pulled over for failure to properly secure her helmet. After police ran her Vehicle Identification Number Wilmington police had discovered she was in possession of stolen property.

According to assistant district attorney Christa Lawler, authorities continued to investigate the incident and verified all necessary paperwork to prove that there was reasonable grounds of Thomas not knowing the property was stolen.

Thomas also has a court date Friday where she said she discovered her helmet charge and her reckless and careless driving charge was also dismissed.

Thomas credits the WECT report with clearing her name and recommends to anyone considering buying a scooter to do their own research before purchasing a scooter.
