CUMBERLAND COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

Cumberland County authorities arrested four people after intercepting a 439 pound shipment of marijuana outside of Fayetteville.

Last week, California authorities tipped off Cumberland County officials about the shipment.

On Wednesday, May 7, a transfer truck delivered the shipment to a mobile home in the 6000 block of Murphy Road in Stedman. According to officials, the driver was unaware that the shipment was marijuana.

Authorities observed the recipients open the shipment and repackage the marijuana into cardboard boxes. The boxes were then loaded into a van and transported to Fayetteville.

Police arrested Pedro Harrison, 47, of Bronx, New York, Denise Thompson, 40, of Fayetteville, Derrick McLaughlin, 37, of Stedman and Ronald Watford, 37, of Fayetteville.

They are all charged with trafficking marijuana by possession, trafficking marijuana by transport, trafficking marijuana by manufacture, and conspiring to traffick marijuana.

Thompson and McLaughlin were charged with maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances.

All four of the suspects are in the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $500,000 secured bond. They are scheduled to make their first court appearance Thursday.
