Officers with the Wilmington Police Department have charged a man in connection to a shooting that happened May 4 in the 500 block of Maides Avenue.
According to police, Carl Antonio Scott was charged with the shooting Wednesday night after having been arrested earlier in the day as the result of a heroin investigation.
According to the sheriff's office, undercover officers bought 2,100 bags of heroin from Scott during the investigation, which started in April 2014. Each bag holds .04 grams of heroin and usually goes for about $15.
The WPD already had warrants issued for Scott, so he was served when he was booked in jail.
Officers were called to Maides Avenue Sunday afternoon around 3:00 to respond to shots fired. Police say a woman flagged downed law enforcement in route to the scene to advise her friend had been shot and she was taking him to the hospital.
The victim, 33-year-old Darryl Taylor, was shot in the throat and chest, but his doctors said he's expected to be okay.
In addition to the shooting charges, Carl Antonio Scott is currently being held under a more than $5 million bond for:
• 28 counts of trafficking heroin
• 6 counts of possession with intent to sell/deliver heroin
• 2 counts maintaining a dwelling/vehicle
• 6 counts possession of drug paraphernalia
• simple possession of marijuana
• possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
• conspiracy to traffic heroin
