UNCW Press Release
WILMINGTON, N.C. – The UNCW baseball and women's tennis programs have received Public Recognition Awards from the NCAA for the second straight year by placing among the top 10 percent nationally in the classroom in their sport.
The NCAA honored 1,049 Division I teams Wednesday with Public Recognition Awards for their latest multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores. The teams recorded multi-year APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports.
The APR is a yearly measure of eligibility and retention for student-athletes competing on every Division I sports team. Thursday's APR scores are based on a multi-year rate that includes scores from the 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13 academic years.
Thirty teams from the Colonial Athletic Association were singled out by the NCAA. William & Mary featured the most awards with seven, followed by Towson (4), Delaware (3), George Mason (3), Northeastern (3), UNCW (2), Drexel (2), Boston (1), Georgia State (1), Hofstra (1), Old Dominion (1) and Xavier (1).
A total of 275 NCAA Division I schools placed at least one team on the list, an increase of 19 from last year. Overall, 146 teams have received Public Recognition Awards in each of the nine years of the program.
