Scott Eastwood, Clint Eastwood's son, and Britt Robertson (Under the Dome) will play the lead characters in the latest Nicholas Sparks novel turned movie, The Longest Ride.
The movie will be filmed in Wilmington and is currently in preproduction.
Cameras are expected to start rolling next month.
The novel follows the love story of cowboy Luke Collins and Sophia Danko, college senior from Wake Forest who is recovering from a break up. Sparks said the inspiration for the story came from Black Mountain College in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.
The film is expected to hit theaters in April 2015.
This is the latest Sparks film to be shot in our area. In 2012, Safe Haven, starring Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel was filmed in Southport and Wilmington. A Walk to Remember also filmed scenes in Southport.
Robertson is currently starring in Under the Dome, which is filming in Wilmington.
This marks Eastwood's first leading role in a major studio film. He took to Twitter about his role on the film, posting, "Great book. Thanks Fox for this amazing opportunity!!"
