The sometimes nerve-wracking job search is now underway for countless 20-somethings graduating from college this month.
Unfortunately, we've learned that job searching this year includes another person connected to higher education here in Wilmington.
The chancellor, Gary Miller, at UNC Wilmington is looking for his next opportunity, and he hasn't even completed his third year on the job yet.
The Board of Trustees chair is quoted as saying this is very common for university leaders. But our reporters noted if Miller leaves now he would have the shortest tenure as leader of this school since the original president of Wilmington College in the 1940s. That doesn't feel so common to me.
There's some mystery in all this and we may never know what is inviting this job search. Miller is not talking.
I certainly hope there's no effort behind the scenes to encourage Gary Miller to find new work. We might come to regret losing someone who has had very little time to make his mark on UNCW or our community.
That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment, or anything else, email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
