ATLANTA, GA (WECT) -
At an early evening news conference Tuesday, officials said a shooting victim from Wilmington is in stable condition and expected to fully recover.
Officers identified the suspect in the shooting as a student at Paine College in Augusta, Georgia.
According to Richmond County Sheriff's Office, officers responded to Haygood Hall at Paine College and found 21-year-old JaJuan Baker, an Ashley High School graduate from Wilmington, on the third floor with a gunshot wound to the head.
Baker was taken to Georgia Regents University Hospital Trauma Center with what was once reported as a life threatening injury. Baker is now stable with a full expectation to recover.
Paine College was placed on lockdown and deputies and investigators interviewed witnesses, which led to the identity of the shooting suspect.
According to officials, after searching dormitories authorities located and arrested 20-year-old Xavier Deanthony Cooper and charged him with aggravated assault, possession of firearm or knife during crime, and possession of weapons in a school building.
Cooper is currently being held in the Richmond County Jail.
