NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) -

Legion Stadium's Buck Hardee baseball field could soon be getting some much needed improvements.

Wilmington City Council will vote Tuesday whether to help make these upgrades happen. Both the Wilmington Sharks team as well as New Hanover Wildcats high school team utilize the field.

Amy Beatty, Superintendent of Recreation and Downtown Services for the City of Wilmington, said the Sharks owners will pay $160,000 for the improvements.

She said the City of Wilmington, New Hanover County, and New Hanover County School District would each chip in $53,000 to complete the other half of the deal.

Beatty said the improvements include replacing the scoreboard, upgrading the sound system, replacing the backstop, and upgrading the backstop.

"We have worked closely as the Wilmington Sharks have with Coach Foy and members of the New Hanover High School staff in order to ensure that these improvements will benefit the baseball team and that they all have some input on the design as well," Beatty said.

Beatty said the improvements are set to begin immediately if the deal is approved. She said the field upgrades will not interfere with any scheduled New Hanover High playoff baseball games.
