WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Tyler Thornton struck out six over six innings and Ryan Welke had two hits and scored twice as College of Charleston averted a Colonial Athletic Association series sweep at the hands of UNCW with a 7-4 win over the Seahawks on Sunday at Brooks Field.

Joining Welke with a multi-hit game for the Cougars was Blake Butler with two hits, including a double. Brandon Glazer picked up two RBI's without a hit.

UNCW's Joe Bertone went 2-for-2 with two doubles and was the only Seahawk with more than one hit.

How it happened: CofC scored twice in the fourth inning as Ben Boykin doubled to lead off the and Welke followed with an infield single. Both runners moved up on a sacrifice bunt and Glazer plated Boykin with a ground out to shortstop. Welke would score on batter later on a throwing error by UNCW with two out for a 3-2 lead.

Inside the box score: Charleston scored 3-of-4 base runners from third with less than two out … CofC also had four hits in RBI opportunities … Ryan Foster didn't allow a two-out hit during his stint, but did allow the leadoff hitter to reach safe twice and both would score.
