WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) -

A three car crash in downtown Wilmington sent three people to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

It happened on Friday night, around 10:30 p.m. near South Front and Dock Streets.

Sgt. Dawson with the Wilmington Police Department said a driver, Anthony Ricardo Fields, was reportedly driving in a careless and reckless manner down Front Street.

He said Fields allegedly crossed the center yellow lines, swerved and over-corrected hitting two parked cars. The collision forced one of the parked cars to hit a parking meter, which then broke and hit a pedestrian.

Fields, a passenger in one of the cars and the pedestrian were all taken to the hospital.

Sgt. Dawson said a nearby business was also damaged in the collision.

Officials have charged Fields with careless and reckless driving as well as DWI.
