Thousands of cancer survivors, caregivers, family and friends packed the track at West Brunswick high school Friday evening for the 2014 Brunswick County Relay for Life.
The caregivers lap started the event with many cancer survivors and onlookers with tears in their eyes for the emotional moment. More than 60 teams and 900 participants registered for the 2014 event.
American Cancer Society officials believe this year's event will raise more than $220,000, which will go toward research to find a cure for cancer, as well as other community programs for cancer patients and their families.
Volunteers of all ages planned to spend the night on the infield of West Brunswick High School to keep the relay going overnight. The event runs from 6 p.m. Friday to 7 a.m. Saturday.
Besides walking and running, there is a list of activities scheduled throughout the night. Click this link to see what is going on: http://bit.ly/1hl1E5p
