CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas, May 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Bob Hilliard, a Texas lawyer and one of the nation's key players in the pursuit of claims against GM, attended a requested 'settlement meeting' with GM's Compensation Guru, attorney Kenneth Feinberg today in Washington D.C.
During the full day meeting, Hilliard, who represents 53 families who have lost loved ones due to GM's defective ignition switch, as well as 273 injured victims, 63 of which suffered catastrophic injuries, discussed with Mr. Feinberg full resolution of all claims.
Bob Hilliard said:
"My numerous clients include those who have suffered serious injuries or the loss of loved ones. Each individual investigation has confirmed the accident scenario was caused by the defect in the GM vehicle."
In early April, GM hired Feinberg to advise them on a comprehensive compensation program. Hilliard said:
"Though Ken Feinberg has handled many different types of claims over the years, GM may surely be his biggest challenge. GM is a criminally culpable corporation directly responsible for so many deaths and injuries."
"If each case was tried separately to a jury, with the strong likelihood of punitive damages, the totals would likely allow GM to finally have a legitimate bankruptcy issue."
"These are all defect cases. Each case was evaluated based on the likely damages a jury would award. Today's talks did not involve offers of monetary discounts for GM-I expect GM to pay full and complete compensation for every single qualified claim. My client's deserve to quickly receive what they are entitled to under our country's tort laws. GM has made clear it wants to resolve its huge and almost unlimited monetary liability as a result of the tragedy it directly brought upon my clients."
Bob Hilliard has been hired by families from around the country. Each case is evaluated to assure there was a defect and the defect contributed to the injuries. To date he has been hired to investigate and has confirmed more than 50 deaths and 273 injuries directly attributed to GM and its defect.
"Unfortunately, we are seeing just the tip of the iceberg, given how many millions of defective vehicles have been driving the roads of America for over 10 years."
