State Softball playoff games will resume on Wednesday

BILOXI, MS (WLOX) -

 

Two-time defending Class 3A State Softball Champion St. Patrick opens the first-round of the Class 3A state playoffs 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Lady Irish softball stadium in Biloxi.

The Lady Irish entertain Choctaw Central in a double-header.  Following game one both teams will play again.

Class 6A playoffs... St. Martin goes for the sweep beginning Wednesday at 5 at St. Martin.  The Yellow Jackets beat Hancock 10-2 in 9 innings Monday night.  St. Martin broke the game wide open with 9 runs in the top of the 9th inning.

Ocean Springs travels to Lyman Wednesday at 5:00 needing a win over Harrison Central to force a third and final deciding playoff game. The Red Rebelettes nipped the Lady Hounds 1-0 Monday night in Ocean Springs.

D'Iberville has a difficult assignment facing Oak Grove on the road Wednesday at 5:00.  The Lady Warriors defeated the Lady Warriors from D'Iberville 15-0 Monday night.

In the Class 5A ranks George County can sweep Long Beach by posting a win over the Lady Cats in Long Beach Wednesday at 5:00.  The Lady Rebels needed 9 innings to defeat Long Beach 3-2 Monday night.

West Harrison must pull out a victory over East Central on the road Wednesday at 5:00.  The Lady Hornets beat the Lady Canes 2-1 on Monday.

South Jones took advantage of too many errors and beat Pascagoula 10-5 Monday night.  The Panthers face a must win at South Jones Wednesday at 5:00.

Vancleave can advance with a win over North Pike beginning 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at North Pike.  The Lady Bulldogs pulled out a 1-0 win Monday in the Class 4A opener.

Poplarville has its back against the wall beginning Wednesday at 5:00 at Lawrence County.  The Lady Hornets were beaten in game one 9-4.

    The UNCW baseball team jumped out to an early lead but Northeastern's clutch hitting in the seventh inning gave the Huskies a 3-2 win and forced a championship game at the Colonial Athletic Association tournament.

    The Wolfpack beat North Lenoir 4-1 on Friday night to win the 2A East finals and earn a spot in the state finals for the sixth time in the last seven seasons.
