WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Cape Fear Community College announced Friday the appointment of Shane Fernando as the director of the CFCC Humanities and Fine Arts Center.
According to CFCC, Fernando has worked at the University of North Carolina Wilmington for the past nine years. His last position was serving as Director of Campus Life Arts and Programs, which oversees UNCW Presents, the Arts in Action Performance and the Leadership Lecture Series, Ann Flack Boseman Gallery, Lumina Theater, Sharky's Box Office and Game Room and the Association for Campus Entertainment.
Officials say he is excited about all the opportunities that will be possible at CFCC's new facility, which is currently under construction on Third Street in Downtown Wilmington and is expected to open early next year.
"I'm humbled and thrilled to begin serving as director of Cape Fear Community College's gorgeous, state-of-the-art performing arts center; it is a joy to see her steel quickly rising from bedrock at the banks of the Cape Fear river. She will certainly serve as a new, cultural anchor in downtown Wilmington, as well as serve as a laboratory for applied student learning outside of the classroom. The scale of the center will allow us to regularly present acts never before seen in our region and I look forward to working with major presenting partners at Thalian Hall and UNCW to brand our region as a performing arts hub," Fernando said.
