WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – After just one year on the bench David Rutledge is out as the Ashley boy's basketball coach.
"After careful consideration by the administration at Ashley High School, David Rutledge will not continue as head basketball coach for the 2014-2015 school year. We sincerely appreciate the hard work that Coach Rutledge put in for the student athletes of Ashley High this school year" said Ashley Athletic Director Roy Turner in a press release.
This past season Rutledge helped lead the Screaming Eagles to an 11-16 record, and a first-round loss to New Hanover in the NCHSAA 4A State Tournament.
Rutledge was hired in May of 2013 to replace Bryn McSwain, who stepped down to spend more time with his family. Prior to Ashley, Rutledge coached at Mallard Creek in Charlotte for three years.
Michael Propst will serve as an interim head coach until the position is filled.
