WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Students from the Friends School of Wilmington and Cape Fear Community College will plant 400 Venus Flytraps Friday in the City of Wilmington's public Rehder Carnivorous Garden.

According to officials, the plants were propagated from flytraps native to the garden and will help replace more than 1,000 plants that were stolen last year.

Officials say North Carolina Representative Ted Davis, who is introducing legislation to make flytrap poaching a felony, will also be on hand for the event. The Wilmington City Council will consider a resolution of support for the legislation at their May 6 meeting.

The garden is located in the city's Piney Ridge Nature Preserve at 3800 Canterbury Road.
