WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Paul Cozza had a busy first day on the job as executive director of the North Carolina State Ports Authority. Wednesday morning he met with employees at the Port of Morehead City then headed to Wilmington for a chamber of commerce reception held in his honor.

Cozza previously served as chief financial officer for Maersk Line and worked more than a decade for CSX Corporation.

The executive director's first day on the job comes one day after Gov. Pat McCrory appointed Wilmington attorney Michael Lee to serve as chair of the ports authority board.

Cozza said he interacted with his new chair several times during the interview process and believes Lee's background makes him well suited to lead the board.

Cozza said the board and NC Secretary of Transportation Tony Tata are committed to the success of the ports.

"What I found, which was very exciting for me, was a genuine interest, a lot of enthusiasm, a lot of passion about the ports and about North Carolina," Cozza said. "So when you come into a CEO position and see that, that's fantastic."

Thursday, Cozza will attend his first ports authority board meeting. He is also scheduled to meet with some of the port's customers.
