WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A new education app will soon be available for download online all thanks to a UNCW graduate student.
Alex Vidor, a graduate student at UNCW's Cameron School of Business, has spent the last year and a half designing a special tool to help teachers and students in the classroom.
The new "Hugo Network" app Vidor developed tells users what the best online educational tools are, including other educational apps. The student said his app will also include blogs and webinars available for educators to browse through and utilize.
"We're trying to create a place where the teacher wants to go to for support, not just to identify the best app, but to learn creative ways and how to incorporate it in the classroom," Vidor explained.
The graduate student said that designing the app has been a challenge, but has definitely been a worthwhile experience.
"After talking to more teachers and more professors, we really feel that we're finding or filling this void," Vidor said. "We know that we're going to help the education industry."
Vidor credits UNCW's Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship with helping him develop the app.
"It really took away the fear that a good idea would be run into the ground from lack of experience," he explained.
Next month Vidor is presenting his app to the North Carolina Technology Association.
The "Hugo Network" web portal can be downloaded from the Apple app store while the final touches are being put on the app itself.
