NEW DETAILS: Fatal shooting in Columbus County

Deputies found the dead body of 46-year-old Livis Charles Owens, Jr. Monday night. Deputies found the dead body of 46-year-old Livis Charles Owens, Jr. Monday night.

DELCO, NC (WECT) – The Columbus County Sheriff's Office is investigating a deadly shooting that happened Monday night in Delco. 

Just before 11:45 p.m., deputies responded to 631 Evergreen Church Road after receiving reports that a person had been shot.

Upon their arrival, deputies found the body of 46-year-old Livis Charles Owens, Jr. Investigators said the preliminary cause of death was a gunshot wound.   

Deputies responded to the area approximately an hour earlier to reports of shots fired, but there were no reports of injuries at that time, according to Columbus County Sheriff's Office.

The case is still under investigation. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
