WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Mellow Mushroom restaurants across the state were forced to stop their beer clubs last week because they violated rules on alcohol sales, according to the state ABC.
Alcohol Law Enforcement got a complaint about the program, investigated, and told Mellow Mushroom they were breaking the rules.
Businesses in North Carolina are allowed to have a "beer club" - where its members earn points that can be redeemed for a mug or a plate that stays at the restaurant; however, if the prize is free or reduced price alcohol, it's against the law.
According to ABC, Mellow Mushroom agreed to stop the program.
