UPDATE: Two killed in Prince George County crash

PRINCE GEORGE, VA (WWBT) -

Virginia State Police are investigating a fatal car accident that occurred Saturday evening in Prince George County.

The accident, involving a 2001 Kenworth tractor-trailer and a 1999 Volvo, occurred in the southbound lanes of Interstate 295, north of the Interstate 95 interchange, at approximately 7:54 p.m. 

In a statement to NBC12, Sergeant Thomas Molnar with the Virginia State Police said two passengers in the Volvo died at the scene. The passengers are described as an adult female and an adult male. The identity of the deceased won't be released until next of kin are notified.

The driver of the Volvo suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was flown to VCU Medical Center.

The driver of the tractor-trailer wasn't injured, according to Sgt. Molnar.

The Virginia State Police Accident Reconstruction Team is currently assisting in the investigation.

All lanes of I-295 southbound were reopened at approximately 12:45 a.m. Sunday.
