It's hard to believe something like this can happen in this day and age but a local couple is claiming they were discriminated against.
They say they were told to get out of a restaurant because of their seeing eye dog.
Jasmine and Andre Anderson have had their share of challenges in life. Both are legally blind.
But what happened at Mr. Hero on Libby Road in Maple Heights brings Mr. Anderson to tears.
"That's the part that really upsets me most is that my son had to see me thrown out of a restaurant for doing nothing wrong - for just being blind!" said Andre Anderson.
Anderson has a guide dog that most people understand goes everywhere he goes. Apparently, the owner of this Mr. Hero wanted to challenge Federal Law.
"She just kept saying, 'no dogs allowed!' I said, Ma'am, this is a service animal. ADA allows her to anywhere I go," said Andre Anderson.
That apparently didn't matter to Manjinder Kaur. The Andersons were forced to leave and call police to get their money back. They say Kaur wouldn't even listen to the police and the situation got even more tasteless when she suggested Anderson should wear a sign around his neck about his disability.
"That was so degrading and so humiliating to me," said Andre Anderson.
This was a first for the couple's son.
"She is the only person I've ever seen discriminate against my mother and father," said Jahzion Anderson.
We went looking for Manjinder Kaur, she refused to come out from a back room when she saw our camera.
"Would you like to come out here and tell us your side of the story?" asked reporter Denise Zarrella. "Can you turn off the camera?" answered Manjinder Kaur. "No, the camera stays on Ma'am. I'm looking for your side of the story," Denise Zarrella responded.
"Mr. Hero is no hero. They should be Mr. Villain I felt because my husband and I are blind, and I felt singled out," stated Jasmine Anderson.
Mr. Hero did respond to the Anderson's complaint through Facebook. They said they sincerely apologize and assured Jasmine Anderson that they were investigating.
