Man accused of shooting wife charged with attempted first degree murder

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WECT) – A man accused of shooting his ex-wife last month before leading authorities on a chase that ended in Columbus County is facing charges in Jacksonville, where the shooting happened.

According to authorities, George Evans is charged with attempted first degree murder among other things.

No charges have been filed in Columbus County at this point, but the district attorney is meeting with the SBI to make a decision in the next two weeks.

Evans was shot several times by officers when he got out of the car after the chase and showed a weapon. He is recovering.
