WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – A special committee assembled by Wilmington Mayor Bill Saffo has been working to compose a potential $52 million transportation bond.

The Mayor's Committee for Potential Transportation Bond has been working for months to identify opportunities for potential transportation improvements throughout the city according to the City of Wilmington's Transportation and Planning Manager, Mike Kozlosky.

The committee is comprised of Wilmington City Council members Earl Sheridan, Laura Padgett, and Kevin O'Grady.

This week the committee finalized its list of recommended projects.  Kozlosky said the list includes roadway projects, bicycle and pedestrian initiatives as well as public transportation improvements throughout the city.

As it stands, the committee would spend $33 million for roadway improvements, $17 million for bicycle and pedestrian walkway improvements, and $2 million dollars for public transportation upgrades.

"We can only educate the community on this potential referendum," explained Kozlosky.  "We have taken these projects from our long range transportation plan."

Kozlosky said the committee will present the list of potential improvements to the Wilmington City Council on May 6.  If approved, they hope to have the transportation bond up for referendum in November.
