WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - As the Wilmington Convention Center prepares to celebrate it's fifth birthday next year, officials say its on pace for its best financial year in the short history of its existence.
WCC General Manager Susan Eaton presented the latest statistics to City Council on Tuesday evening.
According to Eaton, last year the center hosted 142 events, up from 113 the year before. Attendance went up by more than 15,000 and the center surpassed its gross revenue goals by 15.5%. Eaton reports the center increased hotel room nights by 34% across new Hanover county.
Looking forward to this year, Eaton reports there are already 12 conventions scheduled to take place at WCC including 8 new groups. Officials estimate that will generate 4,100 room nights in local hotels.
WCC has also added a virtual tour to its website, an updated Facebook page, and plans to increase advertising and networking with local media outlets.
