KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) – Kure Beach town leaders voted Tuesday night to not oppose seismic air gun testing off of the coast of their beach community.

Town council voted down the resolution to oppose seismic testing 3-2. In previous interviews, Kure Beach Mayor Dean Lambeth has said is supportive of seismic air gun testing off the coast of the beach.

At Tuesday's meeting town council members presented a resolution to ban seismic testing in the area.

The mayor said the public comment period for this matter has passed, but he is still in support of the preliminary step to drill offshore.

"They're going to test an area in front of our state, but you know its 30 miles off-shore in federal water.  It has nothing to do with us," Lambeth explained.

The town of Carolina Beach recently passed a resolution opposing seismic testing.
