CASWELL BEACH, NC (WECT) – The Town of Caswell Beach has issued an official warning after multiple bobcat sightings and an unconfirmed report of a black bear sighting.
Officials say the public should take extra precautions when outside due to the potential for wild animals, which may pose a threat to humans or pets.
Bobcat sightings have occurred recently in the 300 block of Caswell Beach Road (on the marsh-side) and on Oceangreens Lane.
According to Caswell Beach Police Chief George Kassler, a citizen on Caswell Beach Road saw a bobcat eat a feral cat around the same time as a bear sighting in the vicinity of the Arboretum Bridge.
Officials are reminding residents not to leave food outdoors for pets which may attract these wild animals, and definitely do not feed wild animals. Both are not allowed under Caswell Beach Town ordinances and are punishable with a $500 fee.
If you see a wild animal that appears to be overly-tame, sick, or which becomes aggressive, stay away, and call 9-1-1 immediately.
