Showers today, COLD tonight - WECT TV6-WECT.com:News, weather & sports Wilmington, NC

Showers today, COLD tonight

Temperatures this morning sit mild in the 50s to low 60s, with scattered light rain.   A cold front is pushing toward our area, and should arrive around lunchtime.  The Upstate and NE Georgia should stick in the low 60s today, but the front will cause very cold air to push over the TN border, and a few mix/snow showers are expected to develop in that area of Western NC.

This afternoon, a few lingering showers will be possible across the Upstate and the rest of Western NC, but it will overall be much drier than the morning hours.  Because of the cold, dry air pushing in, there is a Freeze Warning in effect from 11pm tonight until 10am Wednesday.  Temperatures across our mountains could fall into the upper 20s tonight, with mid-30s Upstate.  Take care to cover any outdoor spring plants that have begun to grow.  An old blanket or a tarp over the plants can help to keep them from being killed off in the overnight freeze.

High pressure brings sunny weather on Wednesday and Thursday, with our next chance for rain pushing back in on Friday.
