UNCW Press Release

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW sophomore righthander Ryan Foster carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning against longtime rival Campbell and then tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless relief against Hofstra and was named Colonial Athletic Association Co-Pitcher-of-the-Week for the first time.

Foster (1-1) became the second Seahawk this season to carry a no-hitter into the seventh inning, joining Nick Monroe, who saw his bid for perfection halted with one out in the ninth against visiting Liberty.

Over the course of two appearances, Foster did not yield a run and limited opponents to a .069 batting average, allowing just two hits. Against Campbell, he walked two and struck out four in going a career-long eight innings.

Foster made a relief appearance against Hofstra and held the Pride off the scoreboard during his 1.2 innings on Sunday.

On the season, Foster has compiled a 2.65 earned run average and is one inning shy of qualifying for the CAA leaders. In nine appearances, including four starts, he's limited opponents to a .230 batting average.

Foster joins Monroe and Mat Batts, twice, as Seahawk pitchers to earn CAA weekly honors. He's the third Seahawks in as many weeks to earn the award.

UNCW plays East Carolina in a home-and-home series this week, beginning on Tuesday with a 6 p.m. start at Brooks Field. The Seahawks return the visit on Wednesday with a 6 p.m. first-pitch in Greenville.
