BURGAW, NC (WECT) – Two people have been charged after an altercation between neighbors led to a man being shot at and a dog attacking two men, according to Burgaw Police.

Authorities say the incident happened around 4:30 Monday afternoon on South Campbell Street, near Pender Memorial Hospital.

Neighbors say some children were playing outside when another neighbor's children hit the other group with a rake. They say the trouble escalated when the neighbors discussed the children playing nicely.

Neighbors say one of the people turned combative, so the father of the children went over to talk to the neighbor. That's when they claim the neighbor then pulled a gun and shot a "warning shot" at him that grazed his boot.

Neighbors say the neighbor's dog then attacked the children's father.

According to Burgaw Police, there was forced entry into the neighbor's home which led to some sort of altercation then the neighbor shot at the other man.

Police say the dog attacked both men and was put down when officers arrived on scene.

The victim was taken to Pender Memorial Hospital and later released. Neighbors say that the children's father wasn't wounded in the shooting.

According to police, Ernest Edyang and Terrell Carr are both charged with simple assault.
