WILMNGTON, NC (WECT) – The Wells Fargo Foundation invested $250,000 into the Battleship North Carolina Wednesday to help fund repairs to the ship's hull.

"Wells Fargo is proud to support the effort to refurbish the Battleship NORTH CAROLINA," said Ron Hankins, Business Banking manager for Wells Fargo in Charlotte.

Hankins explained the donation connects directly with the vision and values of Wells Fargo and helps demonstrate the organization's commitment to North Carolina.

"Our company was founded in 1852 so we understand the importance of history and we respect and honor the sacrifice that our veterans, present and past, have made to protect our freedoms," said Hankins.

The Battleship North Carolina was considered the world's greatest sea weapon at the time of her commissioning on April 9, 1941. Her wartime complement consisted of 144 commissioned officers and 2,195 enlisted men, including about 100 Marines.
