WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The deadline for paying your 2013 taxes is just around the corner - April 15. According to a spokesperson with the IRS, one out of five people wait to file their taxes in April.
If you feel like you cannot afford to pay your taxes by April 15 here are a few tips that can help you.
First, Contact the IRS before April 15 and let them know your situation, Pay as much money as you can by April 15, and file for an extension.
Also, there are some scams that you need to know about.
One, is the Phone scam where a person claims they are from the IRS and will have your personal information. The IRS says they will not contact you by phone, they will send you a letter.
Another scam to look out for is called "phishing" which is a scam through email asking you questions about your taxes. If you get an email that you are skeptical about forward the email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
