SOUTHPORT, NC (WECT) – The Brunswick Nuclear Plant will be conducting "growl tests" of the public alert and notification sirens Wednesday, April 16 starting at 10:00 a.m.

During the tests, sirens located within ten miles of the Brunswick Nuclear Plant will be sounded for short periods of time lasting approximately ten seconds. These "growl tests" are performed quarterly to make sure the sirens respond and operate properly.

Full-volume tests lasting for about three minutes are conducted once per year, with the test this year scheduled for November 19.

The tests are part of Duke Energy Progress' comprehensive emergency planning program performed in cooperation within the State of North Carolina and Brunswick and New Hanover Counties.
