PLEASURE ISLAND, NC (WECT) - Businesses on Pleasure Island are linking together to promote a thriving business economy on Pleasure Island.
A group called the THREAD of Pleasure Island holds events for business owners to network and bring awareness to businesses that are not the target of tourists. By encouraging business owners to meet all their needs using businesses on the island, the THREAD hopes to create a thriving business district.
"We want to tell people you can get everything you need here. You don't even have to leave the island," said THREAD Co-Founder Jessica Keenan.
The mission of the THREAD is to create a self-sufficient island for the entire year, not only during tourist season.
"A lot of the things that happen around here are very tourist related and that makes sense-you're at a beach," said THREAD Co-Founder Juliet Wright, "But what we want to do is create some visibility and some awareness that aren't that visible."
The THREAD will meet April 17 where they plan on announcing an initiative to get the community involved in supporting Pleasure Island Businesses.
