WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Mission BBQ opened to the public Friday night and donated all their proceeds to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Several days before Friday's opening, Mission BBQ hosted events for Wilmington fire departments and police departments.

The mission behind Mission BBQ is to serve those men and woman who serve the United States and the community of Wilmington.

"We don't believe there is anything more American than BBQ and more American than those who raise their right hand and swear to serve and protect us," said co-owner Bill Kraus, "We just want to serve those who protect our country and our community."

The South College Avenue location is the first Mission BBQ location in North Carolina and the seventh location in the country.

The owners said their famous BBQ will be a welcome addition to the Port City.
