A Columbus advocacy group in the Fountain City is celebrating their first year with supporters.
The Columbus office of Georgia Appleseed was rewarded a grant Friday April 4 for their work in the community.
The Sapelo Foundation gave the organization an $18,000 grant for a pilot program to end the out-of-school suspension rate in Muscogee County.
"Georgia Appleseed is a nonprofit organization that focuses on systemic change through law and policy," said Teddy Reese, Director of Community Operations. "We aim to help low income to marginalize individuals by making strategic policy change that will hopefully improve their lives and make things better for them"
Over the past year, the group has held 15 forums and held six volunteer events to benefit youth in the area.
