WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Close to 75 volunteers from the Junior League of Wilmington gathered Thursday to fight hunger in New Hanover County.
The organization partnered with the Nourish NC organization to pack 320 boxes full of food for students in New Hanover County.
Everything from snacks to items for full course meals was included in the boxes. The food will go to students in need over spring break.
"A lot of these children depend on these meals at school," said Mary Heidenreich, president of the Junior League of Wilmington, NC. "During spring break, you know we don't want them to be hungry so we're packing so that they will have three meals a day for 12 days."
This is the Junior League's first time hosting the event.
