One confirmed dead in rollover accident

WINNABOW, NC (WECT) – One person was killed in a rollover accident Wednesday evening.

Trooper Thompson said Jesse Mason died after his Ford Explorer overturned on Funston Road around 6:30 p.m. Thompson said Mason drifted left of center and over corrected causing his SUV to flip.

Brunswick County Dispatchers said the accident happened along Funston Road between Highway 87 and Governors Road SE. The road was shutdown on either side of Caison Loop Road SE as crews processed the scene.

Mason was the only one in the car at the time of the accident and his vehicle was the only one involved according to Thompson. Thompson also said neither drugs, alcohol, nor speed were factors in the accident.

Mason's family has announced the time and date of the funeral. It will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Shallotte.
