WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Leaders in New Hanover County and the City of Wilmington will learn Wednesday afternoon which businesses are a good fit for the area and the best ways to bring them here.
The city and county partnered with UNCW and CFCC in August to hire Garner Economics to do a targeted industry analysis. The firm was paid $92,500 plus travel costs for this study.
According to a news release, the Wilmington Chamber Board of Directors feels the recommendations for a new strategy will be a positive step in improving the region's competitiveness at attracting news jobs.
The chamber is urging the "community to approach the report with an open mind and seek consensus on those areas that we can agree on to move forward."
"Nobody will agree with all of the recommendations. The question we need to concentrate on answering now is which ones can we agree on in order to move forward?" said 2014 Wilmington Chamber Chairman Rickey Godwin (McGladrey LLP).
A special meeting will take place Wednesday afternoon at 2 to hear the report findings. Check back for more details from that meeting later in the day.
