MARION COUNTY, OR (KPTV) -

A Marion County K-9 was rushed into emergency surgery Tuesday morning.

Deputy Shawn Bush, the handler for Max, took the dog to the vet clinic at 7 a.m. Max was diagnosed with a twisted stomach or "bloat."

Immediate surgery was performed at the Aumsville Pet Clinic.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office released a statement asking people "to keep Max in their thoughts and prayers while he battles his way through this very serious health condition."

By Tuesday afternoon, the sheriff's office said Max was out of surgery and already able to walk around.

Bush said Max's spleen, along with early intervention, prevented the stomach from completely twisting and possibly killing the dog.

Max will remain at the animal hospital overnight for observation.

Bush said this condition can occur in dogs with large chest cavities. If your dog is showing signs of bloating or blockage, contact your veterinarian right away.
