WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - Salons throughout Wilmington participated in "Cuts for a Cause" Sunday afternoon.
Blush Haus of Beaute and other participating salons donated every penny earned to the Coastal Horizons Center's Open House Emergency Youth Shelter.
The Open House Emergency Youth Shelter is an open house for any troubled, runaway or homeless youth in the Wilmington community.
The money earned will go specifically to renovate a room in the youth home, so that anyone in need will have a safe place to stay.
Event organizers say the event is all about raising awareness for the Wilmington Youth and teaching children about inner beauty.
"We wanted to be able to say, ‘do you know why you are getting your haircut today? You are helping a child have a place to sleep at night,'" said Elisha Wendt owner of Blush.
So far, the event raised $2,190 for Coastal Horizons.
