New trolley route in downtown Wilmington hopes to be more convenient

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - A new trolley route started in downtown Wilmington Sunday.

WAVE Transit said the new route will make it more convenient for people who live, work and go downtown. It is supposed to make it easier to shop, go to restaurants and park.

The new route stops every 20 minutes in 10 different locations.

The stops include: 

- Downtown Station
- Orange St / Water St 
- Water St / Ann St 
- Front St at Church's Alley 
- Front St / Chestnut St (US Post Office) 
- Nutt St at Wilmington Convention Center 
- Front St / Harnett St (PPD)
- Front St at Cape Fear Community College
- 4th St / Grace St 
- Chestnut St / 2nd St (NHC Public Library)

It's free and runs seven days a week. Monday through Friday it runs from 7:10 a.m. until 8:50 p.m. Saturday it runs from 10:30 a.m. until 8:50 p.m. Sunday it runs from 10:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.

    Since September, employees have been given three options:  Get the flu shot, get an approved religious or medical exemption, or leave Essentia. At least 50 people have lost their jobs thus far.
