Wilmington, NC – Wilmington Hammerheads FC announced today the addition of goalkeeper Matt Glaeser for the 2014 USL PRO regular season. The former Fort Lauderdale Striker will also serve as Goalkeeper Coach and Community Development Coordinator for the upcoming season.
"I am honored and excited to be joining such a well-respected club," said Glaeser. "It is a great opportunity for me to continue my playing career as well as transition into a coaching position. I am looking forward to a successful season."
The 6-foot, 5-inch goalkeeper will make his debut with the Hammerheads following time spent with North American Soccer League's Fort Lauderdale Strikers since 2011. Prior to joining the NASL, Glaeser played with Finnish club Pallo-Iirot in 2009.
The University of Hartford graduate was named America East Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and the NSCAA Northeast Region Goalkeeper of the Year during his collegiate career.
Glaser will also take on the role of Community Development Coordinator for the Wilmington Hammerheads FC Youth Soccer Camp program.
"I am thankful to the club for giving me a chance to step into the role of Community Development Coordinator," said Glaeser. "My goal in this position is to enhance the club's public visibility and image through a well-organized camp structure in which young people in the community can benefit from professional high-level coaching and instruction."
Wilmington Hammerheads FC will host their first youth soccer camp of the season on April 14-17 at two locations: Legion Stadium and Southwest Soccer Fields in Jacksonville, NC.
