WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Authorities with the Wilmington Police Department were called early Thursday morning to respond to reports of shots fired at Market North Apartments.
According to police, the person who called 911 reported hearing one shot fired and then someone scream.
Officers found Christopher Waller, of Wilmington, with a gunshot wound to his chest when they arrived to the scene.
Wallen told police he was jumped, shot and robbed while walking by himself between some buildings. At that time he couldn't explain why he was shot or give a description of the shooter.
Police said officers in the area stopped a woman who was driving a mustang with an AR15 in the front seat. She told authorities she drove Waller to the area and that he walked away with a guy.
According to police, the woman said she heard a gunshot and didn't see Waller again after that.
Officials said Waller later admitted his gun and cell phone were stolen, but still refused to describe who shot him. He did, however, tell police the shooter's name was "P."
According to police, shell casings were found in the area and Waller had a small bag of cocaine in his pocket at the time of the shooting. Waller has not been charged at this time.
Waller was taken to the hospital for treatment and has since been released.
