WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - The University of North Carolina Wilmington announced Wednesday that it has raised over $118,000 in a 24-hour fundraising drive.
UNCW's goal in the "24 in 24 Challenge" was to raise $24,000 in 24 hours to receive a private gift of an additional $24,000. The gift would go towards funding student scholarships.
The campaign was launched at 8 a.m. on Tuesday and UNCW reached its goal in just 12 hours.
"The success of this campaign is a true testament to the passion our supporters feel for UNCW, and the commitment they've made to our students' success," said Chancellor Gary L. Miller. "The generosity we've seen over the past 24 hours is certainly inspiring when we consider the impact it will have for the over 70% of our students who receive some type of financial assistance."
The university is still adding up the final numbers and will release them when they become available.
